Are you ready to dive into the world of pharmaceutical innovation? Alexion’s Product Development and Clinical Supply (PDCS) organization is on the lookout for a graduate student pursuing a degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, or a related field to join our Synthetic Product Development (SPD) Team for a 6-month Co-op in the first half of 2026. This dynamic team of scientific and technical professionals is dedicated to delivering process and product development solutions for synthetic drug substances and oral solid dosage drug products. You'll have the opportunity to learn and apply skills related to the development and characterization of oral bioavailability enhancement formulations and technologies.

Accountabilities

Collaborate with scientists and engineers to support the development and characterization of oral bioavailability enhancement formulations. Your activities may include:

  • Engage with the latest laboratory technologies being introduced in our new laboratories at 101 College Street.
  • Conduct hands-on development, physicochemical characterization, and performance testing of advanced oral bioavailability enhancement formulations (e.g., amorphous solid dispersion) to solve oral drug delivery challenges.
  • Effectively communicate scientific challenges and the technical approaches used to address them, displaying strong presentation skills.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Graduate student in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of pharmaceutical processes and laboratory practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to think critically about experimental design and data interpretation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to team goals.
  • Ability to adapt to new challenges and a fast-paced working environment.
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and contribute.
  • Must be available during the full 6 months term and maintain general availability during standard business hours.

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • PhD candidate preferred
  • Amorphous solid dispersion and other enabling formulations
  • Solid state characterization, HPLC (Waters Empower) as well as performance testing such as Pion microDiss system
  • In-depth understanding of oral absorption and in silico modeling
  • Prior lab experience is a plus.
